Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is one of the most common types of evidence-based therapy. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind an individual’s difficulties, and so change the way they feel. CBT also helps individuals figure out what they want most from life and move towards achieving their vision.
CBT is used to work through a wide range of issues in a person’s life, from sleeping difficulties or relationship problems to drug and alcohol abuse, or anxiety and depression.
CBT focuses on talking about your problems or concerns to help you frame your thoughts differently. It works by changing individual’s attitudes and their behaviors by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs, and attitudes that are held, and how these processes relate to the way a person behaves, as a way of dealing with emotional problems. This is referred to as a “vicious circle” of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
CBT can help you use logic and reason to flip the internal script with healthier, more realistic thoughts, and be in better control of them instead of allowing your thoughts to control you.
