Heather Stuart is a registered social worker with a Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric from Miami University of Ohio and a teaching certificate from Strathclyde University in the UK.
Heather is happy to work with any individuals, and she is also equipped to work with parents struggling to respond to the emotional needs of their children and to be a source of additional support for children who feel things deeply.
Heather is passionate about working with individuals with Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). The difficult thing about CEN is that it is a form of neglect that often remains invisible. Addressing Childhood Emotional Neglect is not about ‘blaming your parents’, complaining that your parents weren’t ‘perfect’, or staying stuck in the past. It’s about knowing and caring deeply for yourself as a starting point so that you can forge a positive path forward. Regardless of your age or stage of life, Heather would love to help you make sense of your experiences and struggles in order to foster a more loving, compassionate way of living. CEN can create a lot of pain, disconnection and conflict in relationships, but with new understandings and actions things can get better (For more information on Childhood Emotional Neglect please see the Treatment Areas tab)!
Heather’s therapeutic work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as psychodynamic and attachment theories. Heather believes in inclusive, trauma-centred practice. She works with clients in creative and collaborative ways that centre and deeply value each client’s unique personal landscape.
