MEET JACKIE VAEREWYCK
Jackie completed her Bachelor of Arts, with a focus on Criminology and Psychology at Western University. After a couple of years of working with youth in conflict with the law, it sparked her passion for working with adolescents. Jackie returned to school and completed her Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University.
She has experience across a variety of treatment settings, including inpatient substance abuse, community-based services and hospitals. Jackie is eclectic and uses a blend of Cognitive Behavioural, Dialectical Behavioural, Solution Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, and psycho-education in her work with individuals thirteen and up. Her areas of speciality include adolescents, substance abuse, anxiety and depression, self-esteem, and trauma.
Her theory is that when people have hope and can learn to challenge and replace distressing thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, people are free to experience change and show their resilience. Jackie recognizes the decision to seek help can be difficult and uses an approach that is compassionate, direct, and non-judgmental to help create an environment where you feel supported in your counselling journey.
