LIFE & ELDERLY TRANSITIONS COUNSELLING

Serving Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton, Oakville, London, and the surrounding areas, Anchoridge Counselling will assist you with techniques to effectively cope with the stress associated with life transitions.

Life transitions are difficult as they force us to confront the future with uncertainty and vulnerability. Life is full of major transitions such as finishing school, changing careers, getting married, becoming parents, moving, looking after aging parents, and coping with loss. Oftentimes, change is accompanied by overwhelming stress and anxiety about how to manage and move forward. We can sometimes even feel a sense of grief as our lives begin to change and certain chapters come to an end. It is true, change is scary, the thing is, it doesn’t always have to be scary and you can learn how to not only overcome the fear associated with change but also learn how to thrive in your new found environment.

Therapy will assist you in learning strategies and techniques to effectively cope with presenting life transitions and help you regain a sense of control in your life, alleviate stress and make life more fulfilling. Through the therapy approaches used by many of our clinicians we can help you develop these learning strategies and coping skills to not feel overwhelmed with life. That’s the thing about life, there will always be changes and challenges but having the proper tools to work through these changes can greatly improve your quality of life.

Late-life is commonly a time for major life transitions and adjustment to losses. Older adults are faced with life challenges that are specific to their age groups such as retirement, relocation, reduced income, altered social role and entitlements, bereavement, and changes in physical and emotional health. In a way, late-life changes are just as difficult of a change as becoming a teenager, or an adult. We can lose the sense of freedom we once had as we face new difficulties. The effects of these life transitions can leave a person feeling isolated, worthless, deprived, depressed, suicidal, and dependent on others for their care.

Here at Anchoridge Counselling, we offer specialized psychotherapy for seniors in a caring and supportive environment to help relieve stress and frustrations as well as enhance wellbeing. We want you to still feel your youth and sense of control over your life, while simultaneously adjusting to new environments. In an effort to maximize care we incorporate the families and supports of aging adults to create long-lasting results. When those around you are able to support you in a positive way, and show you how much they care it can help create stronger and ever-lasting relationships with each other. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best course of action to bring about positive changes within yourself

Change can be exciting, scary, stressful, and so much more. With the proper support and tools our clinicians at Anchoridge Counselling will help you prepare for whatever may come your way. At Anchoridge, we want you to feel empowered and safe, even when you are scared of these changes and know that you will never be judged and always heard. We will instil a sense of confidence and resiliency to know that you can overcome any obstacles that change will bring your way.
