SCHOOL RELATED ISSUES

Serving Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton, Oakville, London, and the surrounding areas, Anchoridge Counselling wants to help you with any school-related stress you may be experiencing in your life.

Whether you're finishing up high school and feel the pressure to get good grades to get into a college or university program, or you're a university student feeling overwhelmed with the workload demand, and the pressure to perform to get a good job or an internship, we understand how hard life as student can be.

Or maybe you're dealing with relationship concerns or bullying from other students that's making it hard to focus on your schoolwork.

It can feel almost impossible to find a balance between school work and having a life outside of school.

Some students may feel pressure both from themselves, but also from family members to excel in school and get straight A's to get a good career.

However, this excessive pressure and focus on being the best can take a toll on a student's mental health and make them feel guilty should they need to take a break from their studies.

If you're feeling overwhelmed in school, whether it's high school or post secondary school, we can help.

Our clinicians have been where you are, so they understand exactly what you're going through.

They can help give you tools to not just survive, but thrive, including:

  • strategies for time management and exam taking

  • exploring deeper feelings and familial pressure that may be taking a toll

  • learning to accept yourself and your abilities when you've tried your best

  • guidance for next steps after completing post secondary education

  • finding balance between school and your social life

  • dealing with roommates, dating, bullying or other relationship stressors

How Do I Work Through School-Related Stress?

Many of us believe we can handle whatever life throws at us, but it is okay to need a helping hand sometimes.

At Anchoridge Counselling, we know that school is where you spend a significant portion of your days.

We understand the feelings of helplessness and frustration that arise when school becomes overwhelming, or doesn't feel like a safe place to be. You can' t just ignore it, it affects your day to day quality of life and ability to succeed in your education.

Our team of therapists will evaluate each person individually to determine what type of treatment is best. Treatment is customized to fit the specific needs of each person. We use psychotherapy methods such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, and supportive talk therapy to help individuals connect with your thoughts and emotions around your work experiences. Our team will help you work through your concerns, develop new coping skills and build self-resiliency.

You are worthy of help, no matter how trivial you may perceive your problems to be. There is no shame in reaching out – our team will support and empower you through your stressors so you can not just survive school, but thrive and be successful in your chosen career path!
