Marina Machado is currently on maternity leave. She has always been passionate about mental health and resisting emotional burnout through collective care. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from Toronto Metropolitan University and holds (Hons) Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Science degrees. She is currently completing her Certificate in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy through the University of Toronto.
Marina has had the honour of walking beside clients as they navigate caregiver burnout, life transitions, chronic health conditions, ambiguous loss, and grief. Her clinical work is trauma-informed and draws on solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy, and mindfulness.
Marina’s approach is strength-based and focuses on goals and exceptions to the problem. Instead of looking for what is wrong and how to fix it, she is looking for what is right and how to use it. The assumptions that guide her work are that people have the strengths and resources within themselves to deal with any challenge, that small changes lead to bigger changes, and that the focus should be on solutions and the desired future as opposed to the problem and the past. Marina works with clients to co-construct solutions that are right for them.
