INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING AT ANCHORIDGE COUNSELLING
Serving Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton, London, Oakville, and the surrounding areas, Anchoridge Counselling focuses on your thought process and emotions surrounding stressful moments.
At any age or stage of life, especially during hard transitions, we all benefit from talking to someone. This could be a family member, friend, therapist or other professional. Year by year our careers, studies, health, and relationships change and develop, which can cause turbulence in our lives and subsequently - our mental health.
The aim of individual counselling is to allow you personal time to talk through your thought process and emotions surrounding stressful moments in your life. Our therapists are all experienced in individual counselling and use various modalities to help you work through and towards you personal goals.
Congratulations on taking your first step towards taking care of your mental health!
The first question usually is, "what should I expect during counselling?" The answer is, that results vary depending on the client's goals and their willingness to challenge themselves!
WHAT TO EXPECT
We understand how vulnerable you can feel when first opening up
to a counsellor. The truth is, sometimes a therapist can be the right fit, and sometimes they are not. Our rule of thumb is that if you have not had a "breakthrough" within six to eight sessions of counselling, chances are you need to change your therapist. Having said that, it is also the client's responsibility to come to therapy ready to do the needed work! It is up to the client to put the effort in with their therapist to change the way you cope and behave.
In the first session, there will be a biopsychosocial assessment. In this assessment, you and your therapist will create an overview of your entire life from childhood to adulthood, and extrapolate significant causes of present mental health challenges, traumas or medical conditions that you may have. After this first session, you and your therapist will then create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, using a certain modality that will work best for you personally. This plan will provide both short and long-term goals that will guide you toward your desired outcome.
You have the power to lead the session. Our role in the session is to guide you and pinpoint areas overlooked that may have created destructive behaviours that have prevented you from moving forward. The above plan is definitely not a "one size fits all" type of therapy. If the treatment plan or goals do not fit your needs we will simply try another method.
