Shannyn Stevens is a Registered Psychotherapist and a Canadian Certified Counsellor who completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Guelph with a major in Criminal Justice and Public Policy. Shannyn began her career working with both incarcerated and non-incarcerated adults within a residential treatment facility for addiction. This experience deepened her passion for working with individuals to address not only the presenting issue but the underlying causes as well. To continue her learning, Shannyn returned to school and completed her Master of Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.
Shannyn uses a trauma-informed, client-centred and strengths-based approach to treatment planning. She works collaboratively with clients to create a treatment plan that will support achieving their goals. This treatment plan will incorporate an integrated approach from evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, cognitive processing therapy, dialectic behavioural therapy, and psychoeducation.
Shannyn has experience providing psychotherapy and supportive counselling in a variety of treatment settings including inpatient, residential, and outpatient. She has primarily worked with individuals and groups. Her areas of specialty include working with adults living with addiction, PTSD, trauma, and other complex mental health issues. She also has experience working with individuals who experience, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem, relationship issues, and women’s issues to name a few.
Shannyn considers it a privilege to join you on the journey towards wellness. Through providing a safe, non-judgmental space, she hopes to support you with identifying your strengths and provide tools to create effective change.
