Frankie Lui is a Registered Social Worker with a Bachelor of Social Work from King’s University College and a Master of Social Work from University of Toronto, specializing in Mental Health and Health. He started his social work journey at St. Joseph’s Health Care – London and has a vast experience working with adults who experience psychosis, substance use, and mixed mood disorders. Frankie is currently working directly with the geriatric population experiencing psychiatric disorders including the aging brain (neurocognitive disorders and dementia) and he is also part of a research team completing a randomized clinical trial using Functional Analytic Psychotherapy in targeting feelings of loneliness within older adults.
Frankie completed additional training with Wilfred Laurier University in obtaining his Death, Dying, and Bereavement Certificate in providing quality care to those experiencing grief and loss. He works from a trauma-informed perspective and approaches sessions with gentle curiosity in processing emotions. He acknowledges the connections between the mind, body, and spirit and commits to offering a genuine human-to-human connection, with unconditional care. As a bi-cultural Chinese Canadian, Frankie additionally has personal experiences with emigration and floating and managing within these two realms of culture that often coincide.
Frankie’s theoretical underpinning stems from third wave- cognitive behavioral therapy, which incorporates mindfulness techniques, cognitive reprocessing, and behavioral reinforcement in approaching healing. Frankie is driven through client-centered work and tailors each session as he recognizes that every person coming to therapy has stories to be honored. Modalities offered include ACT, CBT, DBT, EFT, FAP – using the Awareness, Courage, and Love perspective, and Narrative Therapy. As a musician, Frankie additionally incorporates music into his practice in providing healing through a different medium.
Frankie offers sessions in both English and Cantonese and works with Adults and Older Adults. He is currently accepting new clients. Starting therapy can be a stressful process, and Frankie welcomes clients to experience emotional healing in a safe space that highlights personal resilience, coping, and the courage it took to approach therapy.
