Suffering from fertility issues, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant loss is one of the hardest experiences a person can face. Feeling that your body is working against you can be a painful realization, and on top of this, you may also be expected to make extremely difficult decisions regarding your future. Infertility can also carry with it a sense of denial with sadness and shock borne individually when pregnancy does not materialize. There can be feelings of fear, guilt and abandonment from the partner who feels the problem lies with them.
Going through fertility treatment, it can feel as though your life is on hold and it is hard to move forward or plan your future. It is important to know emotions, though painful, are natural and normal, and you don't have to work through them alone.
How we can help you through your journey?
Many of us believe that we can handle whatever life throws at us, but it is okay to need a helping hand sometimes. At Anchoridge Counselling, we understand how challenging it is when you desperately want to start or grow a family but are not able to conceive. We also recognize it is not just about medical intervention, but the mind-body connection. Treatment is customized to fit the specific needs of each person. We use psychotherapy methods such as:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Supportive Talk Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
...to help individuals normalize the emotions that arise from fertility challenges, acknowledge and process their grief, navigate challenging social situations and teaching new ways of coping.
